Our Services
Laboratory
Our laboratory offers a full range of specialized testing on soil, rock, concrete and its components, ceramics, bricks, masonry, tiles, and refractories. Flow limit testing on ore concentrates for marine transport.
These tests are offered as part of construction materials quality control, mine tailings management, problem identification, dispute cases, transport, and project aesthetics.
Grain Size Analysis
Measures the grain size distribution of a sample.
Hydrometer Analysis
Grades fine-grained soils, silts, and clays.
Permeability
Determines the permeability coefficient of a soil, or how easily it allows water to pass through the particles.
Moisture Content
Amount of water contained in a material (soils, concrete, etc.)
Direct Shear
Measures the shear strength properties of soil or rock.
Proctor Compaction
Determines the optimal moisture content at which a given soil type will become densest and reach its maximum dry density.
Atterberg Limits
Determines the critical water contents of a fine-grained soil: its shrinkage limit, plastic limit, and liquid limit.
Consolidation
How a soil changes volume in response to a change in pressure.
Compressive Strength
Capacity of a material to withstand compressive loads
Abrasion / Impact
Determines aggregate toughness and abrasion characteristics.
Freeze/Thaw
Determines the stability conditions of the product.
Concrete Mix Design
We create concrete mixes tailored to your needs.
Absorption and Density
Measure the amount of liquid absorbed and the density of the concrete.
Flexural Strength
A measure of the tensile strength of concrete; it measures the ability of concrete to resist failure in bending.
Compressive Strength
Measures the ability of concrete to withstand loads.
Freeze/Thaw
Measures the resistance of concrete to freezing and thawing action.
Organic Impurities in Fine Aggregates
Measures the presence of organic matter in an aggregate sample.
Microscopic Analysis
Used to determine concrete composition, grain size, etc.

Field Testing
Testing and on-site inspections
In the field, our team is trained to inspect foundations and piles, supervise earthworks, and monitor the placement of cement and concrete.
Equipment used in the field includes CME hollow-stem auger drills, diamond drills, compact drills for concrete sampling, portable equipment for plant and tunnel work, BQ and NQ caliber Wireline systems for deep rock drilling, piston and/or split-spoon sampling for standard penetration testing, Packer-type equipment for pressure water testing in rock, equipment for installing piezometers up to 1,300 feet deep, inclinometers, nuclear densometers, and equipment for measuring concrete slump and air content on-site.

Draftsperson
Testing and on-site inspections
Our design services are offered to enable the most efficient construction of all types of buildings, earthworks, foundations, retaining walls, roads and highways, airstrips, treatment ponds, and construction on permafrost.
Services include earthwork design, permafrost foundation design, design of settling ponds for toxic waste, wastewater, etc., dam and tailings facility design, and retaining wall design.
